A goldfish’s view on creativity and social behaviour

14/11/2018

Why do we connect so easily with others and yet fail to create lasting connections with almost all of them? I have found no other group of people so open to new experiences and ideas as the artistic community. But why can’t we sustain such connections over the long run?

I feel as though thee is an attention span issue at play, where I could compare my social life with my creative life; as soon as I find something new and interesting I am 100% there β€” making plans, testing, learning new thingsΒ β€” but when I have acquired the basic knowledge about it and the novelty slowly fades away, well, sometimes I just forget about it forever. Is this something that happens with social connections as well?

I’m sure attention span problems are a common issue amongst many of us, so maybe this is an open question to be asked; is the lack of attention towards ideas affecting our social life, or even our whole life? And if so, could a small step towards creating more structure and discipline in our creative endeavours benefit our social and personal life, even change the way we are as people?
