We create things, that have never been imagined, let alone done before. We fix things that are broken and we mend things that should blossom. Not because we can know more than others, not because we have some kind of super power, merely because we are prepared to fail so many times. So many times more than the average person.
When others call it quits, well, we keep on coming. Are we stubborn or just curious? Either way you don’t just stop a creative person by taking away their pencils and brushes. He’ll just start knitting pullovers and learn how to cook Thai food while figuring out the next step of the way.
Always busy, always bored: a state I would not trade for anything in the world. Sure, people like the security of knowing what tomorrow brings and the comfort of a known, segmented and preplanned life path with as few surprises along the way as possible. Now sometimes I wouldn’t mind turning on the autopilot for a while (and I do), but that’s exactly the point – sometimes. Me, I’d rather have a colourful life with the occasional staleness, then a safe one with possible surprises. And while this is not for everyone, because physics and ironworking aren’t for everyone, it is for me. And I celebrate the fact that it is also for many of you, because as much as we need those who build bridges across rivers, we need creatives who build connections among people too.
